Simone Biles fans didn’t take her supporting males in female sports lightly. Biles has issued an apology to Riley Gaines after an ugly feud over trans athletes in women’s sports.

Simone Biles And Riley Gaines’ Ugly Feud

For context, the backlash started after Biles called out Gaines for anti-trans comments. You can read more about it HERE.

Many people believe that Biles found out that her supporters and the majority of American people disagreed with her about males competing in female sports. While others believe that after Gaines posted an old tweet by Biles from 2017, she may have recognized contradictions and errors in her public statements.

In a reshared tweet from October 12, 2017, Biles said,

“ahhhh good thing guys don’t compete against girls or he’d take all the gold medals!!

Riley Gaines retweeted it, saying,

“Oop, don’t you hate it when your past self completely undermines your current nonsensical argument? How has 2025 Simone reconciled with the fact 2017 Simone was a ‘truly sick bully’ by her own standard?

In addition to that, Gaines also said on her latest episode of the “Gaines for Girls” podcast on Out Kick and recorded the show a few hours after Biles came after her on X. Gaines gave Biles her flowers as one of the best athletes to have ever performed in sports, but that her post put a bad mark on her resume.

“She basically incinerated her legacy in just two tweets…if her inclusive dream was just a reality, she would have zero gold medals.”

Simone Biles Apologizes To Riley Gaines After Ugly Feud

In a recent tweet, Biles issued an apology saying,

“I wanted to follow up from my last tweets. I’ve always believed competitive equity & inclusivity are both essential in sport. The current system doesn’t adequately balance these important principles, which often leads to frustration and heated exchanges, and it didn’t help for me to get personal with Riley, which I apologize for. These are sensitive, complicated issues that I truly don’t have the answers or solutions to, but I believe it starts with empathy and respect.

Biles continued, saying,

I was not advocating for policies that compromise fairness in women’s sports. My objection is to be singling out children for public scrutiny in ways that feel personal and harmful. Individual athletes–especially kids– should never be the focus of criticism of a flawed system that they have no control over. I believe sports organizations have a responsibility to come up with rules supporting inclusion while maintaining fair competition. We all want a future for sport that is fair, inclusive, and respectful.”

Riley Gaines accepted Biles’ apology by resharing her tweet, stating,

I accept Simone’s apology for the personal attacks, including the ones where she body-shamed me. I know she knows what this feels like. She’s still the greatest female gymnast of all time. A couple of things. Sports ARE inclusive by nature. Anyone can and everyone SHOULD play sports. Competition, on the other hand and by definition, is exclusive. So the idea of “competitive equity” is nonsensical. Secondly, the boys are publicly humiliating the girls. To suggest that women and girls must be silent or ignore a boy who is PUBLICLY hurting or humiliating them is wrong. You can’t have any empathy and compassion for the girls if you’re ignoring when young men are harming or abusing them. I am not ashamed to be a voice for the voiceless.

Lastly, I agree with you that the blame is on the lawmakers and leaders at the top. Precisely why I’m suing the NCAA and support candidates who vow to stand with women. That’s why I joined @realDonaldTrump at the signing of his Executive Order. I didn’t see you there or championing this effort with your platform. Women’s sports can’t be used as an excuse for girls to center the feelings and validation of men and boys.

I welcome you to the fight to support fair sports and a future for female athletes. Little girls deserve the same shot to achieve that you had.
