The boxing world is buzzing, and this time it has nothing to do with Claressa Shields’ July 2025 undisputed titles defense. All eyes are now on the legendary Laila Ali, who has announced it’s finally time to “clear up lies and rumors” that she claims originated from Claressa Shields herself.

In a recent YouTube video, Ali addressed what she claims to be ‘lies and false narratives’ of Claressa Shields, who she says has been dragging not only her name, but her father’s name, Muhammad Ali, for attention and clout.

“Her story is that I didn’t support her and that I didn’t pass the torch because of my jealousy and envy of her accomplishments in boxing,” Ali stated in her video.

She also added that Shields said that Ali disrespected her, and started talking about “knocking her out” simply because she was bitter that she [Shields] had outdone her.

More Details Behind Laila Ali And Claressa Shields’ Feud

In case you’re wondering, the feud between Claressa Shields and Laila Ali started in 2019 after Ali was interviewed on ‘The Breakfast Club‘ and stated she didn’t believe there was a female boxer who could give her a good challenge. While Ali didn’t directly mention Shields, her comments were interpreted as dismissive of Shields’ talent, who was a top-ranked fighter at that time.

Shields took offense to the comments, as she felt they didn’t acknowledge her achievements.

In January 2025, Shields claimed Ali was jealous of her after watching Ali’s interview with Andre Ward.

Then, in August 2025, during Ali’s interview with “Good Day D.C”, Ali was asked about the possibility of stepping into the ring with Claressa Shields. Laila recalled a similar question when she hosted with Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor for a Netflix special, noting that she responded,

“[U]nless somebody has $15-$20 million, don’t even call me about this. Unless somebody calls me and says they have it, we’re not going to have a conversation. I’m not trying to come back and fight, but if someone offered that kind of money, I would actually have to think about it. Do I look like I could fight again? I think so too.”

Shortly after her video went viral, Shield inserted herself into the conversation and secured the $15 million offer. Ali responded to the offer via Instagram, stating,

“You will know my answer … very soon. Because I’m going to answer that question on my time and the way I want to do it — because if anyone is calling the shots, it’s going to be me.”

Ali made it clear that she originally wasn’t going to give what she claims lies her time, and that she normally wouldn’t engage with people who thrive on negativity and drama. However, she believes it’s time for Shields to be held accountable for her false claims.

The retired 47-year-old has also made it clear that her time and focus have been on her new cooking ventures, which is why she’s finally addressing what she claims to be lies. FULL VIDEO BELOW

In the video, boxing legend Ali drops receipts revealing timelines and that she never disrespected Shields. She also reveals her support has extended since she (Claressa) was a young girl from Michigan seeking to uplift her in the “Ali” way.

Ali ended the video by promising followers a response in a future video on whether or not she’ll be stepping back into the ring.
