Brandy Reflects on Past Relationship With Wanya Morris in New Memoir ‘Phases’
R&B singer Brandy Norwood is opening up about a deeply personal chapter of her early career in her newly released memoir, Phases.
More Details Behind Brandy’s Alleged Past Relationship
In the book, Brandy reflects on a past relationship with Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men, revealing that their connection began when she was 16 years old while he was in his early 20s.
According to excerpts from the memoir, Brandy describes the relationship as private and emotionally complex, noting that it developed during a time when she was still navigating fame as a teenager in the music industry. She also addresses the age difference, writing candidly about the imbalance she now recognizes with time and maturity.
Wanya and I understood… that public knowledge of our relationship would ignite scandal, potentially threatening everything we’d both worked for, so he and I opted for elaborate fiction: we would pretend… we were waiting until my eighteenth birthday before pursuing any romantic connection.”
Brandy also shares that, at the time, she believed she was in love, but now recognizes deeper concerns she did not fully understand as a teenager.
“These are the things that with hindsight you realize are wildly obvious signs of something wrong… Neon warning signs that I chose to ignore because I didn’t know what the hell I was doing… Just that I was in love — or what I believed was love.”
The memoir offers a broader look into Brandy’s rise to fame, personal challenges, and the lessons she has gained over time. Her reflections on this relationship highlight the complexities of growing up in the spotlight and the perspective that comes with maturity.
As of now, Wanya Morris has not publicly responded to the claims made in the memoir.
