Kirk Franklin Responds To Backlash Over His GloRilla Collab

Kirk Franklin and GloRilla are teaming up again, and just like the first time, there are people who have something to say about it.

The two recently reunited for Franklin’s new song “This Time,” which dropped on September 25. The track is centered around getting through hard times and holding on to faith, with GloRilla jumping in for a verse.

But the collaboration has also brought back some of the same questions Franklin faced when he first worked with GloRilla on “Rain Down on Me.” That song, which also featured Maverick City Music, Kierra Sheard, and Chandler Moore, received criticism from some people in the Christian community because of GloRilla’s secular music background.

Franklin recently addressed the criticism while appearing on ‘Joe and Jada with Fat Joe and Jadakiss‘.

The gospel star talked about the backlash he has received from some religious circles for interacting and praying with secular artists. Rather than seeing those relationships as something he needs to avoid, Franklin spoke about the importance of showing people love without judging them.

And this isn’t exactly new territory for Franklin.

The longtime gospel artist has always mixed gospel with hip-hop influences, and he has previously worked with artists outside the traditional gospel world. His latest collaboration with GloRilla continues that approach.

As for “This Time,” the song has definitely gotten people talking. Some listeners are enjoying the unexpected combination, while others are still questioning whether collaborations like this belong in gospel music.

Either way, Kirk Franklin doesn’t appear to be changing his approach anytime soon.
