Claressa Shields Clears Up Rumors About Dating A Married Man

Claressa Shields found herself answering some very personal questions during a recent appearance on Yung Joc & The Streetz Morning Takeover.

The undefeated boxing champion sat down with co-host Mz Shyneka, who asked Shields about her relationship with rapper Papoose and the fact that his divorce from Remy Ma has not yet been finalized.

“How much longer are you willing to be in a relationship with someone’s husband?” Mz Shyneka asked, referring to the fact that although Papoose and Remy Ma have publicly confirmed their split, they are still legally married.

Instead of avoiding the conversation, Shields addressed the question directly and shared her perspective on the situation.

“Well, pause. ‘Cause that’s not somebody’s husband. Papoose filed for divorce. Y’all hate to say that word, but it’s the word that’s out there. He filed for divorce because he’s serious about me. So, I’m not with somebody’s husband and if you’re going to call him her husband, make sure you call her his wife and also hold her accountable for what she’s doing in her life.”

Claressa added that Remy Ma, whom she didn’t explicitly name, is also living her life with someone else.

“So don’t make it seem like it’s just one-sided. I’m not with somebody’s husband. I’m with the man who filed for divorce, who’s serious about me, who’s done things for me that I’ve done for him. So that’s not what it is,” Shields clarified.

The relationship between Shields and Papoose has been the subject of public discussion since the two went public with their relationship in late 2024. Both have spoken about their connection, while Papoose and Remy Ma have moved forward separately after ending their marriage.

Public drama aside, Claressa is staying locked in on her boxing career, where she’s still easily one of the greatest to ever do it.

Still, the internet had a field day debating how messy—or normal—it really is to date someone who’s separated but not officially divorced yet.
