Tia Mowry Responds to Critics After Calling Herself A Single Mom

Sister Sister star, Tia Mowry, has decided to respond to critics after receiving backlash for calling herself a ‘single mom’.

Tia Mowry Addresses Backlash Over ‘Single Mom’ Claims

In an Instagram post, the actress shared a selfie with the caption, “Why do I get backlash for calling myself a single mom?”

To bring you up to speed, Tia Mowry finalized her divorce from Corey Hardrick in April 2023, after being married for 14 years and while sharing two beautiful children.

Followed by a video of her styling her daughter’s hair, Mowry stated,

Being a single mom doesn’t always mean a mom doing it all alone without the father present in their kids’ lives at all. I recognize that archetype is extremely difficult and I truly empathize. But what often gets overlooked is the nuance of what being a single mom actually can mean.

Mowry continued, stating,

For me, in my household, I am SINGLE. I don’t have a partner so I’m holding it down for everyone at home. I’m the only parent day to day.

Tia Mowry ended by emphasizing that different family dynamics should be normalized, and that what makes a situation “toxic” or “broken” is when kids feel the divide…when they have to choose between parents.

CRITICS’ REACT TO TIA MOWRY’S ‘SINGLE MOM LABEL’

While many of Mowry’s followers agreed with her, some believe that claiming to be a single mom undermines Corey Hardrict’s presence as an active father and found it offensive towards single mothers who receive no support from their child’s father and are sole providers.

A user named @cocokiss1981 commented,

“She is single, not a single mother. Their father is active and present.”

Another user by the name _londonmoyae commented,

“Tia u choose to be a single mother willingly.. Not because he didn’t want to be a father and walked out ya’ll life am I missing something?”

A user by the name @thepissygoat said,

“And she’s right!! It doesn’t matter if the father is active or not. They’re not married nor living in the same household. She’s single & a mother”

Do you consider Tia a single mom? Or is co-parenting still parenting with a partner?
