Simone Biles Calls Out Riley Gaines For Anti-Trans Comments
On Friday, June 7th, Olympic gymnast Simone Biles called out Riley Gaines, a former NCAA swimmer, for anti-trans comments.
Simone Biles Calls Out Riley Gaines For Anti-Trans Comments
The heated online exchange began when Gains criticised a Minnesota High School softball team for winning a state championship with a transgender pitcher, Marissa Rothenberger.
On X, Gaines wrote,
“Comments off lol. To be expected when your star player is a boy.”
In reaction to Gaines’ post, Simone replied,
@Riley_Gaines You’re truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race. Straight up sore loser. You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive or creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports.
Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!!
But instead… You bully them…
One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!
Well, Gaines pushed back, arguing that Biles’ stance undermines the progress made in women’s athletics while ignoring the competitive advantages of biological males.
The public discussion started when Rothenberger’s sex on the athlete’s birth certificate was updated to “female.”
According to Daily Mail, Rothenberger is just one example of many trans-identified males who have managed to slip under the radar in women’s sports after transitioning at a young age.
