Planned Parenthood Officially Defunded As Medicaid Is Block Into Law

Planned Parenthood has officially been defunded at the federal level, at least for now.

Planned Parenthood Faces Major Setback as Federal Funding Block Advances

On July 4, President Trump signed a new budget law that blocks Medicaid reimbursements to Planned Parenthood for one year. This comes after both the Senate and House narrowly passed the bill last week.

The law means federal funding will no longer cover services provided by Planned Parenthood clinics, starting October 1, 2025. This includes funding for cancer screenings, birth control, STI testing, and other reproductive care, not just abortion.

Planned Parenthood says the cut could force nearly 200 clinics to close and leave more than 1 million patients without care, especially in low-income communities.

The change was made possible after the Supreme Court ruled that states can remove Planned Parenthood from Medicaid programs without being sued by patients.

Supporters call the move a pro-life victory. Critics say it puts essential healthcare at risk.

Planned Parenthood says over 1 million patients could lose access to care, including cancer screenings, birth control, and STI testing—not just abortion services. This also includes nearly 200 clinics that could be shutting down.

Supporters say this is a win for pro-life efforts, while critics warn it will harm low-income communities that rely on Planned Parenthood for basic health care.

More updates to come as the law takes effect.
