The gospel singer performed in Jamaica wearing sneakers and a casual summer look, which became a trending topic online.

Franklin clarified he was not wearing “hoochie daddy shorts” despite the internet jokes and criticism. Franklin’s look—shorts and a tank top—sparked viral reactions on social media, with some jokingly referring to the shorts as “hoochie daddy” style.

“It was just a regular look that I had on… I had some Travis Scotts on and I was doing a concert,” he said. He added that the public reaction felt “fatiguing” and unnecessary.

Kirk Franklin also took a moment to address the people who use social media,

“It’s not social media that’s evil, it’s the individuals [whose] hearts are not pure and healed and whole and surrendered…”

Despite the criticism, Franklin remains focused on his message and music, encouraging listeners to shift attention from fashion to faith.
