Dwight Howard’s Ex Denied Emergency Custody Amid Ongoing Family Dispute
Former NBA star Dwight Howard is facing a new legal development involving his family, as his ex-partner has been denied an emergency request for custody of their daughter.
According to court filings, Howard’s ex, Tiffany Render, submitted a request for emergency temporary custody of their 15-year-old daughter earlier this week, citing urgent concerns about the teen’s safety and mental health.
This development comes during a complicated season for Howard, who has recently been involved in multiple personal and legal matters, including an ongoing divorce.

The filing reportedly claimed the child had recently been admitted to a mental health facility after expressing thoughts of self-harm. It also included a statement from the teen expressing a desire to stay with her mother.
Dwight Howard’s Ex Speaks Out
Tiffany Render, ex of Dwight Howard, speaks out claiming their 15-year-old daughter “cried out for help” amid their ongoing custody situation.
According to Tiffany, her daughter allegedly expressed feeling unsafe, unheard, and emotionally distressed before being removed from her previous school volleyball and basketball teams as well as having her phone access restricted. The IG post also claims that Dwight took these actions after their daughter began speaking up to school staff.
Tiffany also shared what appears to be a signed affidavit from their daughter stating she wants to live with her mother and made that decision voluntarily. She further alleges that a recent photo of Dwight and their daughter was used to paint a “false happy family narrative,” and says she has stayed quiet for years but is now asking for help and resources.
More Details Behind The Court Decision
A judge denied the emergency motion, determining that the situation did not meet the legal standard required for immediate intervention.
The court also noted that proper documentation related to the existing custody agreement was not submitted alongside the request—an issue that impacted the ruling.
As it stands, no changes have been made to the current custody arrangement.
While the emergency request was denied, the case is not over. The matter is expected to proceed through the standard legal process, where both parties will have the opportunity to present their arguments in a scheduled hearing. That hearing could determine whether any temporary or long-term adjustments to custody will be made.
For now, the court’s decision keeps the current custody situation in place—but the broader case remains active.
