Haddon voiced strong concerns about the direction of the gospel music industry, asking,
“What are we doing? Are we just allowing this to happen and wonder why the gospel music industry is dying?”
While clarifying his comments were not meant to disrespect Gospel song winner GloRilla. Haddon, however, expressed difficulty watching the Dr. Bobby Jones Gospel Award go to someone outside their genre.
He further criticized the industry’s tendency to “celebrate the same people year after year like there’s nobody else in Gospel music,” seemingly referencing Kirk Franklin, adding,
“You cannot give it to one person as if they’re the ones keeping it going.”
After acknowledging that it wasn’t a big win for the Gospel music industry, Haddon has proposed that gospel artists come together and have someone advocating for the genre with no other motive or agendas but to elevate the Gospel genre as a whole.
